Himcules vs. Generic Medication Trackers: Why TRT Needs Its Own App

TL;DR: Medisafe, MyTherapy, and Round Health are solid medication trackers — but none of them understand TRT. No site rotation, no dose-per-injection math, no supply depletion, no cycle awareness. Here's why a purpose-built tracker matters.

The Problem with "Good Enough"

When you start TRT, your doctor tells you to track your injections. So you download the first medication tracker on the App Store. Medisafe. MyTherapy. Round Health. They're well-reviewed, well-designed, and completely built for pills.

For the first few weeks, it works. You set a reminder, you log a dose. But then the cracks show:

  • Where do I put my injection site? There's no field for that.
  • How do I split my weekly dose across 3 injections? The app doesn't calculate that.
  • How much is left in my vial? No idea — the app tracks pills, not milliliters.
  • Which site am I supposed to pin next? The app doesn't know what site rotation is.

Generic medication trackers are designed for daily pills with fixed doses. TRT is injections on variable schedules with rotating sites, concentration-based dosing, and supply measured in mL. Different problem, different tool.

Where Generic Trackers Win

Credit where it's due:

  • Multi-medication tracking. If you take 5 medications plus TRT, a single app for everything has convenience value.
  • Caregiver features. Medisafe lets family members monitor your adherence — useful for elderly patients or complex regimens.
  • Cross-platform. Medisafe and MyTherapy work on both iOS and Android. Himcules is iOS only for now.
  • Pharmacy integrations. Some generic trackers connect with pharmacies for refill reminders.

If TRT is just one of many medications you're managing, a generic tracker might make sense as your primary app. But even then, Himcules can run alongside it as your TRT-specific tool — the two aren't mutually exclusive.

Where Generic Trackers Fall Short for TRT

No Concept of Injection Sites

TRT patients rotate between 6 injection sites across deltoids, quads, and glutes. Proper rotation prevents scar tissue, reduces pain, and improves absorption. Generic trackers have no field for this — you'd need to type it in a notes field and remember to check it every time. Himcules tracks your rotation automatically and shows your next site on the dashboard.

No Dose Math

If your doctor prescribes 200mg of testosterone cypionate every 14 days at 200mg/mL concentration, and you want to split that into 3 injections per cycle — what's the dose per injection? What's the volume in mL? Generic trackers don't calculate this. Himcules does it from your prescription details.

No Supply Awareness

A 10mL vial of testosterone cypionate at 200mg/mL contains 2,000mg total. At your protocol's dose, how many injections is that? When will you run out? Generic trackers count pills. Himcules tracks milliliters, deducts automatically with each injection, and alerts you at configurable thresholds (5 injections remaining, 3, 1).

Privacy Model

Most generic medication trackers require an account, sync to the cloud, and share data with analytics services. Some share anonymized health data with research partners. For sensitive health information like hormone therapy, that's a meaningful concern. Himcules stores everything on your device — no account, no cloud, no data leaving your phone.
